Tonight, December 3, 2017 is the first of the trilogy of super moons. The next super moon will be on January 1, 2018 and the next on January 31, 2018. What is special about that last moon is it will also be a blue moon! You will also be able to catch a lunar eclipse on January 31, 2018.
A Super moon is when the full moon is closest to the earth on its axis, this is also called the perigee.

Learning in December
Today the sun is shining but the air is comfortably cool. Two days away from the start of the last month of the year and I realize the busy Christmas season will be here before I can say," Merry Christmas!" I open up my homeschool curriculum this morning and sigh. Homeschooling a 3rd, 1st grader and a kindergartener; I then realize their school years will pass very quick. Have I done everything I could to make it enjoyable? Have I taught in a way that makes them want to yearn for self education? Have I missed any important life lessons? It is that moment that my cup of coffee has once again turned cold and I say, "Girls! Let's take December off of school!"
Now, I really won't be taking a true break off of school, but a break from the structured curriculum and learning. This afternoon, we sat around the table and discussed what Christmas meant and how we can get the most out of this Holiday Season. We brainstormed and shared some ideas. Today, we drew 25 medium sized stars on construction paper and picked names for each star. The girls decorated them with glitter and each morning in December we will pray for the person who is on that star. The little ladies want to mail the star to each person afterwards with a note saying they were prayed for this holiday season.
Included in my list will be baking for neighbors, law enforcement, fire department with the girls deciding on the recipe, executing it and deliverance with a letter. This Christmas season I am hoping to instill in them a different style of learning that they will take with them for years to come. I plan on sharing our outside the box learning styles this December and would love to hear what you and your family does also.
Cheers!
